>>>_ Why did I make this website?

I started this website as an experiment.

I forget what propelled me into getting into hand-coding my own website exactly. I believe it was a youtube video or two that brought my attention to the indie web.

There were other factors at play as well. For a long time running, I was on various social media websites. My main go to was twitter. I had been there about 10 years.

Towards the end of my being there, I had felt like my overall creativity was suffering for it. There was a sense in which I felt I was making things for social media, rather than for myself. On top of this, I felt I was wasting time, not just scrolling, but arguing about pointless things.

I needed an escape, and carving out my own site in the digital sea proved a decent one.

>>>_ What is the purpose of this website?

Admittedly, I'm not sure at this point. My idea initially was to make it a dumping ground: A self-contained place where I could post my creative works, update people on life, share my thoughts in good taste free from rage inducing algorithms.

More time goes on however, there's a sense in which I want the site to be an art project in itself. I want to make it an explorable world of it's own.

>>>_ Philosophy of Play.

The overarching goal of this site, and perhaps my creations as a whole, is to promote fun and true, genuine play. The world feels increasingly dreary and serious offline and online. Things we do for fun get turned into side-hustles and we're expected to grind day in and day out. Everything turns into competition and comparison. We're expected to always have our attention on serious matters. The things that should give us rest only place more burdens upon us.
Play is often sidelined as frivolous and unimportant or extorted and used for profit.

But we need fun. We need play. At the heart of creation is playfulness. Without play, our soul whithers and dies.
